Sergio Perez has pointed out the aspects of his game that, in his opinion, need to be strengthened before he can compete with Max Verstappen for the 2023 Drivers’ Championship.
Sergio Perez has acknowledged that his lack of consistency is a problem that he needs to work on in order to improve his chances of winning the 2023 Drivers’ Championship.
The Red Bull driver got off to a terrific start to the season, highlighted by a win in Monaco and a string of podium finishes that maintained him in striking distance of the Drivers’ Championship lead.
However, the performance of teammate Max Verstappen continued to improve throughout the course of the season, and the Dutch driver went on to win his second Drivers’ title with a great deal of ease.
Perez admitted in his pre-race press conference for the Brazilian Grand Prix that reliability concerns and his own lack of consistency had been a major obstacle in his pursuit of the 2022 title.
According to comments that Perez made to the media, including those that were published on theplaceforgames.com, “It certainly started really well; we had some reliability difficulties in the beginning, but things were looking excellent on track. We were in the mix for the championship early on.”
“I definitely had a couple of races that didn’t go very well, which really took me out of the running for the championship.
“Therefore, there is some work to be done in that regard, specifically working with the team to ensure that we can maintain that consistency throughout the season and that we can return the following year and fight for the title, provided that we have a car of a comparable level for the following year.
“It is essential that we end our season on a high note so that we can return to competition the following year and get off to a good start throughout the season.”
The Mexican driver is now competing against Charles Leclerc of Ferrari for second place in the Drivers’ Championship. However, the Mexican driver is currently in the lead in this competition by five points.
