Due to the cancellation of the Imola Grand Prix, Formula 1 has stated that they will broadcast the entirety of the Imola races that took place in 2005 and 2021 on YouTube.
The 2005 Grand Prix of San Marino, which features the historic showdown between two-time defending world champion Fernando Alonso and seven-time defending world champion Michael Schumacher, will be webcast live on Saturday at eight o’clock in the evening local time in the Philippines.
The thrilling 2021 Grand Prix of Emilia-Romagna, in which Max Verstappen won his first race of the season, will be broadcast live on Sunday at three in the morning.
The race weekend that was scheduled to take place from May 19 to May 21 was canceled as a result of discussions held between Formula 1, the FIA, and local authorities in response to the terrible weather conditions that caused major flooding in northern Italy.
According to a statement released by the organization, “The decision has been taken because it is not possible to hold the event safely for our fans, the teams, and our personnel and it is the right and responsible thing to do given the situation faced by the towns and cities in the region,”
“It would not be right to put further pressure on the local authorities and emergency services at this difficult time,” the statement continued.
It is not apparent at this time whether or not the grand prix will be held at a later date.
The cancellation of the event was backed by a number of Formula 1 teams and drivers as well.
Formula 1 has announced that it will contribute one million euros (about $1.1 million) “to the Emilia-Romagna Region’s Agency for Territorial Safety and Civil Protection to support the communities that have been affected by the flooding in the region.”
Ferrari has also made the announcement that they will contribute one million euros to the regional fundraising effort.
On May 26-28, the seventh round of the Formula 1 season will take place in Monaco.
Max Verstappen, who drives for Red Bull and presently has 119 points, is in the lead for the world title. His other teammate Sergio Perez is in second place with 105 points. Alonso is currently in third place with 75 points.
