“He was an extraordinary visionary entrepreneur and a man who contributed to alter our sport and developed the Red Bull brand that is renowned all over the world. He passed away earlier this year.
“I will miss him very much, as will the entire Formula 1 community. Please know that his family, friends, and the Red Bull and AlphaTauri teams are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Christian Horner, the team leader for Red Bull, said the following when speaking on Sky Sports F1: “It’s very, very sad.” What an amazing human being — he is truly one of a kind. The things that he has accomplished and the things that he has done for so many people all around the world in a variety of sports are unparalleled.
“There are so many of us who have to be so grateful to him for the possibilities he’s provided and the vision he had, the strength of character [he had], and the fact that he was never scared to follow dreams, and chase dreams. This is exactly what he accomplished in Formula One to demonstrate that one person can make a difference.
“We are just extremely thankful to him for everything that he has done and everything that he has supported us with throughout the years. In this pit lane, there are so many drivers, so many team members, and so many other individuals who owe him so much.
When asked what the recent championship victory by Verstappen would have meant to Mateschitz, Horner responded, “Well, thankfully he got to see that.” He was tremendously proud of the team, incredibly proud of everything we had accomplished and were continuing to accomplish, and he has been an ardent supporter of everything we do and the pillar upon which everything rests.
